We had a new group of students from Central St Martins in our studio yesterday. As you might know, last year's project ended with us tailoring a suit for Alex James from the winning student's cloth design, and we plan to continue that success with another round for this year.

We had about 25 students from the second year of the Weave and Printed Textiles departments here, so our studio seemed a bit cramped!! Our designers Stacey and Ruth introduced the group to our business, showing them the outcome of several previous projects, and some of our ongoing collaborations and projects. Unlike most other tailoring businesses, we aren't just a bespoke tailoring business – our design department is involved in art direction, styling, fragrance design and the rest! Never a quiet moment here....and I think the students found that an interesting insight. After I told them about how I started the business (some 20 years ago now, what a scary thought!), we gave them a tour of the design studio and tailors's workshop, followed by the (once dilapidated) house in which I established my name. We finished the morning with a look around our Bespoke Atelier on Elder Street, taking them through the Bespoke process from Lloyd our Head Cutter, to our tailors, and finishers and final product.

The project encourages the students to design a selection of cloths for Timothy Everest and our target market of customers. The students were briefed to also think about the style of products they wish their cloth to be made into – a casual jacket, tie and/or a manbag. I hope the project will have as positive an outcome as last year. We were so impressed with the commitment of the students and their mature attitudes!

The first round of critiques is taking place in February so I'll be sure to blog about their progress!
