Mr Matt Hranek needs little introduction. The self-styled “street hustler”, journalist, photographer, Bon Viveur and publisher of WM Brown Magazine has been entertaining us greatly during this worldwide quarantine. His Instagram posts from his farm in upstate New York have chronicled his daily rituals of cooking for his family, dressing up for dinner and enjoying the odd tipple (or ten).
We asked him if he’d be so kind as to take a break from belting out Sinatra on his karaoke machine, just long enough to share a surefire cocktail recipe with us. So, here it is, folks, Matt’s potent and poignant tribute to his home borough: The Manhattan.
MATT HRANEK’S MANHATTAN
2 oz (56ml) Rye (Whistlepig is a good choice!)
1 oz (23ml) sweet vermouth (Antica is a good choice here)
A couple dashes of Angostura bitters
All of this goes into a shaker with ice.
Shake the hell out of it and quickly pour into a coup and garnish with a thick orange peel!
(you can use a cherry if you fancy but I like the orange!)
