The Back to Work Season

Five failsafe pieces to see you through

While a return to the office may naturally fill some of us with a bit of dread, there’s one upside to it: an excuse to really get dressed again. Here’s our top five pieces to ease you back into it…

Chapter One of our Autumn / Winter collection is available online and instore now

Remember office life? It feels more like a past life to us at this point, having spent much of the past year working from the comfort of our own homes in the comfort of our most informal clothes. Sure, at first, there was a strange kind of bliss to a professional lifestyle that lacked a dreaded rush hour commute, but that bliss only lasts so long – especially if you’re like us and enjoy the pleasures of dressing for the office. Fortunately, that lifestyle is slowly returning, and with it, the opportunity to bring some serious style back into your public professional environment.

Now, the most obvious thing to wear back in the office is a suit. Being a tailoring house, we’re all for this (as long as it’s cut correctly, of course), but one of the good things to take from the télétravail period is the shift in formalities of daily dressing. While we’re not suggesting you rock up to work in your dressing gown, there are a certain number of less formal – yet equally stylish – staples which will elevate your back to work status in a manner that feels less code of conduct and more code of nonchalance. So herewith, the selection of our top five – all carefully picked from our latest Autumn/Winter collection.

1. A Raglan coat

First up, the finishing layer. While you might not be wearing this at the desk, the first impression you give when stepping into the office is more important than ever – and nothing communicates a sense of stylish attentiveness quite like a houndstooth tweed overcoat. Our latest design has been hand-woven in Scotland: clad in a pleasing colour palette of ivory, charcoal and gold. Seal this over your underlayers for an office arrival that says you mean business.

2. A colourful roll neck

While the Autumn/Winter seasons may be looking a bit dull in weather terms, it’s no reason to sacrifice a confident dose of colour in your wardrobe. ‘Tis the season to be optimistic, and texturally translated, your best bet for a comfortable yet eye-catching office look is our mustard lambswool roll neck. With its staple silhouette and statement shade, this is the smartest way of bringing some positivity back to your professional environment. Trust us, you’ll be thanked.

3. A pair of corduroy kecks

Wondering what to pair the above roll neck with? Easy: corduroy trousers. Half the reason why we love the colder seasons is for the opportunity to embrace this tufted texture, because it’s warm, well-made and inherently stylish. This pair in our current collection are designed with a higher rise to elongate your silhouette and are finished with front pleats to add a bit of volume. In combination with the upper mustard design, your return to the office will subtly speak of seventies style – and that’s always a good idea.

4. A pair of suede chukka boots

Now, onto the base of your attire. It’s important to keep some sense of formality when dressing for the nine to five lifestyle, so a sturdy lace up shoe is a smart port of call. But rather than being like every other guy in there who chooses a patent leather design, we suggest something in suede like our hi top brown chukka boots. Slightly more casual but equally stylish, we’ve designed these with a chunky crepe sole and ultimate durability – meaning that comfort meets total class. Hard to go wrong with these.

5. A bespoke or MTM suit

As we mentioned before, a suit is a failsafe style for the office environment – but if you want it to look genuinely stylish, the key is having it totally tailored to your silhouette. Whether you want to keep things classic through a single-breasted flannel suit finished with notch lapels or spark a bit more conversation through a double breasted velvet suit, our bespoke and made to measure service is on hand to bring your specific sartorial wishes to life. Quality, craftsmanship and individuality: this is the ensemble which will see you through your newfound office life for decades to come.
